Update : 21 Jun 2015, 10:24 PM

Teachers of Shahjalal Science and Technology University have divided into two groups over resignation of vice-chancellor Aminul Haque.

A section of teachers who are members of Muktijudder Chetonay Udbudho Shikhok Forum staged a sit-in programme in front of the office of the VC demanding resignation of Aminul Haque.

Convenor of the forum Dr Syed Shamsul Alam, Students’ Welfare advisor Dr Anwarul Islam, Professor Hasanizzaman Shyamal and Assistant Proctor Mirajul Islam addressed at the event.

Speakers at the programme said VC Aminul Haque had gone on leave two months back promising that he would resign and not back to the campus. But he had entered into the campus. They also threatened that if the VC did not resign from his post, they would wage movement against him.

They also alleged that the VC could not be able to do any devolopment work of the campus in his tenure.

Meanwhile, supporters of Muktijuddher Chetonay and Muktochintacharchay Oikyaboddho Shikhok Forum are claiming that a vested quarter is trying to create tension on the campus.

Later, teachers of the platform led by its convenor Professor Akhtarul Haque met with vice-chancellor in the afternoon.

During the meeting, teachers urged the vice-chancellor to take immediate measures to keep congenial atmosphere on the campus.

When contacted, the VC said he had gone on leave for family affairs. As soon as the duration of leave ends, he would joined his office.

The tension was generated on the SUST campus on April 13 when 19 teachers from the physics department and geography and environment department of the university went to hold a talk with the VC over space allocation between the departments on April 15.

Prof Dr Syed Badiuzzaman Faruque, head of the physics department, and Prof Dr Sharif Md Sharafuddin, head of the geography and environment science department, resigned on the same day following the alleged misconduct of the VC.

On April 20, thirty-five resigned from different administrative posts demanding the removal of university Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan.
