The Rajshahi University authorities have suspended a BCL leader on charge of beating a cultural activist on the campus.
The suspended Saddam Hossain alias Sajib, assistant secretary of BCL RU unit, is a 3rd year student of law department.
Proctor Professor Tariqul Hasan said Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin suspended the BCL leader temporarily under his special power.
On June 9, Sajib along with his associates severally beat up Basudev Roy, former president of RU Kendrio Sangskritik Jote and also a master's student of psychology over a trifling matter on the campus leaving him injured seriously.
Basudev is now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with one of his legs fractured.
Followed by the incident, Kendriya Sangskritik Jote, a platform of all cultural organisations of the university, submitted a written complaint to the university authorities demanding punishment and arrest of BCL leader Sajib.
From the day after the incident, university cultural activists also observed a series of protest events on the campus to push for their demands.
Facing the declaration of mass-strike, the university authorities suspended Sajib from the university temporarily.
