Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s wife and Ziaur Rahman Foundation Vice Chairman Dr Zubaida Rahman visited Blue Sky School, a specialized school for children operated by the Bangladesh Air Force in Dhaka Cantonment, on Tuesday.
Saleha Khan, president of the Bangladesh Air Force Women Welfare Association and Others Women and Children Club, welcomed Zubaida Rahman upon her arrival. Students of Blue Sky School also welcomed her with flowers.
During the visit, Zubaida Rahman observed various class activities and was briefed on therapy programs for children with special needs.
She visited the school’s hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology and music therapy activities.
A total of 28 specially trained teachers and therapists conduct these activities at Blue Sky School to help children with special needs lead healthy and normal lives.
The principal of Blue Sky School briefed Zubaida Rahman on the school’s educational and technical education activities, therapy facilities, medical emergency management and overall activities.
Blue Sky School was established in 2021 at the initiative of the Bangladesh Air Force Women Welfare Association (BAFWWA). Classes are currently conducted with 1 teacher and 1 sister/brother for a maximum of 5 students.
Since 2021, many students with special needs have been integrated into mainstream education. Some children have also been employed as assistant therapists under the technical education program to help them become economically self-reliant.
Later, Zubaida Rahman visited BAFWWA Corner, which features various activities of BAFWWA. She was briefed on the training activities of BAFWWA Crafts and Boutique, BAFWWA Long-term Training Project and BAFWWA Industrial Home, and observed various handicraft products made by trainees.
After the visit, Zubaida Rahman attended a cultural program organized with the participation of children with special needs from Blue Sky School and students of BAFWWA Golden Eagle Nursery.
Zubaida Rahman praised the facilities provided for children with special needs at Blue Sky School and the initiatives taken by BAFWWA to develop women’s skills and support their economic self-reliance.
