Microbus catches fire in capital: Two injured in AC gas leak incident

Jasmine, wife of Abul Hossain, said the fire broke out after a cigarette was lit inside the vehicle

Two men were injured in a fire reportedly triggered by an air-conditioner gas leak inside a microbus at the embankment area of Mohammadpur in the capital.

The incident occurred around 2:15 pm on Tuesday, leaving Abul Hossain (52) and Md Bashar (40) with burn injuries.

They were immediately taken to the emergency department of the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Abul Hossain, son of late Tara Mia, originally from Dhalpa village in Kendua upazila of Netrokona, currently lives with his family in the Adabor area of Shyamoli. Md Bashar is from Habiganj and resides in the Pallabi area of Dhaka. Family members said Abul Hossain works as a driver, while Bashar is employed at a private company.

She said the fire broke out after a cigarette was lit inside the vehicle, which triggered the blaze.

Dr Md Harunur Rashid, resident physician at the emergency department of the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed the incident.

He said Abul Hossain sustained burns on around 12 percent of his body, while Bashar suffered minor injuries. Both are currently under observation.
