Dhaka’s sky suddenly changed after sunset on Wednesday as darkness quickly spread across the area, triggering a strong nor’wester storm.

Within moments, gusty winds swept through different parts of the city, accompanied by dust storms that caused temporary discomfort for residents.

The intensity of the storm, however, did not last long. After a brief period, the wind began to subside, and rainfall followed. What started as light rain gradually intensified and eventually turned into torrential downpours, offering some relief from the prevailing heat for city dwellers.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the extended part of a low-pressure system is currently located over West Bengal and surrounding areas, while the seasonal low pressure over the southern Bay of Bengal remains active, contributing to the prevailing weather conditions.

In its 24-hour forecast, the department said temporary gusty winds, lightning, and rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places in the Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Elsewhere in the country, skies may remain partly cloudy, and weather is expected to stay mainly dry.

It added that daytime temperatures across the country may rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures could increase slightly.
