Four members of the same family were killed in a road accident in Sherpur upazila of Bogra, while a one-and-a-half-year-old girl miraculously survived the incident.

The critically injured toddler has been taken to the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital in Agargaon in the capital for advanced treatment.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed deep grief and condolences over the incident and has taken full responsibility for the treatment of the injured child.

On Wednesday evening, the prime minister spoke with the deputy commissioner of Bogra and the director of the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital, said his additional press secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, confirming the matter.

He said the accident occurred while the victims were traveling from Dhaka to Rangpur, leaving four members of the same family dead and a child critically injured. The condition of the child’s parents is also reported to be critical.

The one-and-a-half-year-old girl has been brought to Dhaka along with her mother and admitted to the Neurosciences Hospital, where arrangements have been made to ensure her advanced treatment, with the prime minister assuming full responsibility for all medical expenses.

Rumon said the prime minister also spoke with the deputy commissioner of Bogra and the director of Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, instructing them to ensure the highest level of treatment for the injured.

He added that the child was being shifted to the Neurosciences Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment, and the prime minister also spoke with the hospital’s director, directing authorities to ensure the best possible care.

According to officials, a microbus carrying 12 passengers from Dhaka to Rangpur met with the accident in the Sherpur area of Bogra on Wednesday morning. One person died on the spot, while three others — relatives of the child — were declared dead after being taken to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Bogra deputy commissioner said the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kaunia in Rangpur, where they will be buried.

The victims were traveling with family members and relatives to their village home in Kaunia to celebrate Eid when the accident occurred in Sherpur.
