One person has died and two others are missing after a launch collided with a trawler at Sadarghat in Dhaka while returning home for Eid-ul-Fitr. Two more people were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred on Wednesday around 5 pm at the Sadarghat launch terminal when the launch Zakir Samrat-3 struck the trawler.
According to police and fire service sources, several passengers who had arrived on the trawler from Keraniganj were attempting to board a launch operating on the Dhaka–Ilisha (Bhola) route. At that time, Zakir Samrat-3 hit the trawler from behind and quickly left the terminal.
One of the injured passengers, a woman, was rescued by the fire service and taken to Dhaka’s Mitford Hospital. She is traumatized and unable to speak at the moment; further details will be available once she recovers.
Police said at least two people remain missing following the accident.
