DUJA gets new Committee

Md Samsuddoza Nabab, Dhaka Tribune's Dhaka University correspondent, has been elected as an Executive Member of the committee

The Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) held its executive committee election in a smooth and festive atmosphere.

Kaler Kantho’s DU correspondent Md Manjur Hossain Mahi was elected president, while Star News correspondent Liton Islam became general secretary.

On Tuesday, voting took place at the DUJA office in the university's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), running from 11:50am to 2:30pm. After the votes were counted, Chief Election Commissioner, former DUJA president and Gazipur District Commissioner Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan formally announced the results at 3:00pm.

Serving as Election Commissioners were DUJA's former General Secretary and Prothom Alo senior reporter Riadul Karim, former General Secretary and Daily Ittefaq senior reporter Saidur Rahman, along with outgoing DUJA President Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi and General Secretary Mahadi Hasan.

Elections were held for nine positions in total, including President and General Secretary. Forty-one members cast their votes — 31 in person and 10 by postal ballot. Manzur Hossain Mahi secured the presidency with 30 votes, while Liton Islam won the general secretary's post with 24 votes.

The other elected members are — Vice President Mahathir Mohammed (The Daily Star), Joint General Secretary Md Rahad Uddin (Daily Janakantha), Office Secretary HM Khalid Hasan (Desh Rupantar), Treasurer Niemur Rahman Emon (Daily Observer), and Executive Members Md Burhan Uddin (Channel 24), Md Samsuddoza Nabab (Dhaka Tribune), and Mohammad Shahedul Islam (Times of Bangladesh).

Following the announcement, Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan congratulated the newly elected committee, saying, "DUJA has always been committed to democratic practice. After a long time, we are delighted to have held elections in such a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere. We hope the new leadership will work together in the best interests of students."
