The Social Agency for Welfare and Advancement in Bangladesh (SAWAB) has launched an initiative titled “Iftar Ghar” to distribute iftar meals among low-income and working people in Dhaka during the holy month of Ramadan.
The program is being conducted in front of the organisation’s office in Lalmatia in the capital.
Under the initiative, special iftar packs are distributed daily starting about an hour before the evening meal.
According to SAWAB, the packs are prepared with items such as chicken pulao, dates and drinking water to ensure a balanced meal for fasting individuals.
SAWAB Chairman SM Rasheduzzaman told media at the distribution program that the organisation has been working since 2015 to support underprivileged communities across the country.
He said SAWAB has organised iftar distribution programs in different areas of Bangladesh in previous years, based on the needs of local communities.
Due to positive responses to the initiative, the organisation has expanded the program this year to include distribution in front of its head office alongside activities in other parts of the country.
Rasheduzzaman said the organisation plans to further expand such welfare initiatives in the future.
SAWAB General Manager Lokman Hossain, IT and Media Manager Khorshed Alam and other officials were present during the distribution of the iftar packs.
According to the organisation, more than 200 iftar packs are being distributed daily from the Lalmatia “Iftar Ghar”, with the number increased based on demand. SAWAB plans to distribute more than 10,000 iftar packs throughout the month of Ramadan.
The distribution program began on the first day of Ramadan and will continue until the 27th day of the month.
