Two prime accused in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha convener Shahid Sharif Osman bin Hadi have been arrested in the Bongaon area of West Bengal, India, based on intelligence information from Bangladesh’s defense intelligence agency, according to the Inter-Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR).
In a press release issued Sunday night, the ISPR said the process of handing over the arrestees to Bangladesh has already begun.
The two arrested in India are identified as shooter Rahul, also known as Faisal Karim Masud, 37, and Alamgir Hossain, 34. They are the main accused in the Osman Hadi murder case.
According to the statement, a senior official of Bangladesh’s defense intelligence agency, the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), recently visited India. Since then, Indian authorities have taken a tougher stance against criminals who fled Bangladesh, the ISPR said.
According to available information, after shooting Osman Hadi, the accused illegally entered Indian territory through the Meghalaya border. They later stayed at different locations across India.
Later, they attempted to take shelter in the Bongaon border area of West Bengal with a plan to return to Bangladesh, the statement said.
Based on intelligence information received from Bangladesh, Indian authorities conducted an operation and arrested them late on the night of March 7.
In connection with the incident, a case has been filed at the STF WB Headquarters Police Station in West Bengal.
The two arrestees were produced before a court and taken into police custody. Further investigation into the matter was underway.
