The director general of the Inquiry and Investigation Wing-2 of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Md Motahar Hossain, fell victim to a mugging in Mohammadpur in the capital on Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 11pm on Saturday on the pavement beside Mohammadpur Residential Model College. During the incident, the muggers assaulted him and fled with his belongings.

According to the victim and police sources, Motahar Hossain was walking along the pavement near Shaheed Farhan Faiyaz Chattar (Nanak Chattar) at around 11pm when several muggers suddenly surrounded him with locally made sharp weapons.

At one stage, they beat him and snatched two mobile phones—an iPhone 6 Plus and an iPhone 12 Pro Max—along with Tk15,000 in cash and an expensive wristwatch before fleeing the scene.

In connection with the incident, another government official filed a case on behalf of the victim with Mohammadpur police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Tejgaon Division) Ibn Mizan confirmed the incident, saying, “Last night, an ACC director general fell victim to a mugging in Mohammadpur. We are working to arrest the accused as soon as possible. Another government official has filed a case with Mohammadpur police station on behalf of the victim.”
