Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance train tickets ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr to ensure smooth travel for homebound passengers.
Tickets for journeys on March 13 went on sale at 8am Tuesday, with all intercity train tickets under the western zone available online. Tickets for all intercity trains under the eastern zone will be available from 2 p.m. the same day.
As in previous years, seven days’ advance tickets for intercity trains are being sold under special arrangements. To ease passenger inconvenience and prevent overcrowding at stations, Bangladesh Railway is offering 100% of tickets online.
The decisions were taken at a preparatory meeting on special Eid train services held recently at Rail Bhaban in Dhaka.
According to the schedule, tickets will be sold as follows: March 13 tickets on March 3; March 14 tickets on March 4; March 15 tickets on March 5; March 16 tickets on March 6; March 17 tickets on March 7; March 18 tickets on March 8; and March 19 tickets on March 9. Subject to the sighting of the moon, tickets for March 20, 21, and 22 will be sold accordingly.
In response to passenger demand, 25% of non-AC coach tickets will be available as standing tickets, which can be collected from the originating station before departure.
For Eid travel, each passenger will be allowed to purchase tickets only once, with a maximum of four seats per transaction. No tickets will be refundable, railway authorities said.
