A female leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was injured in an alleged machete attack while conducting campaign activities in the Kadamtali area of the capital.

The injured leader has been identified as Kazi Maria Islam Baby, a Rukon (member) of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and a women’s leader of the party. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Ward No. 52 of Kadamtali.

According to Kazi Maria Islam Baby, she was working in Ward No. 52 as part of the campaign for Jamaat candidate Syed Zainul Abedin in the Dhaka-4 constituency. During the campaign, several individuals obstructed their activities and made various remarks, including claiming that they did not recognize Zainul Abedin. The situation gradually became tense.

She further stated that while entering a narrow alley, an unidentified person suddenly struck her on the head with a sharp weapon and fled the scene. She said she did not see the attacker. While injured, a rickshaw puller took her to a nearby medical practitioner. After receiving first aid, she returned home. She required four stitches to her head.

Regarding the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kadamtali Police Station, Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, said, “We have learned that a female Jamaat worker has been injured. However, we are investigating how she was injured. No written complaint has been filed at the police station so far in connection with the incident.”
