A citizens’ condolence meeting is set to be held on Friday at 2:30pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, in memory of the former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

The event is being organized under the initiative of civil society, with strict regulations and extensive preparations undertaken surrounding the program.

Law enforcement personnel have already begun taking positions in connection with the condolence meeting.

In addition, intelligence agency personnel are conducting surveillance in plain clothes.

Although the program will take place inside the premises, LED screens have been installed outside so that those unable to enter can watch the proceedings live.

Ibn-e-Mizan, deputy commissioner of the Tejgaon Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that there is no security shortfall and that an adequate number of police personnel are deployed.

He said that the condolence meeting will be held inside the South Plaza of the Parliament complex. Attendees will be able to enter through Asad Gate, as well as the West and East Gates. Archway metal detectors have been installed at the entry points, and everyone entering the venue will be required to undergo security screening.

He further added that, in addition to DMP police, members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and other security forces have also been deployed to ensure overall security.
