A van driver has been killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in the Jurain Balur Math area under Shyampur police station in the capital.
The incident took place around 12:30am on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Ibrahim, 40.
The victim’s wife, Minara Begum, said that while Ibrahim was returning home after work at night, a speeding unidentified vehicle struck him and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost In-charge (Inspector) Faruk Ahmed confirmed the incident, saying the body is currently being kept at the hospital’s morgue.
Police are trying to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
