A gas cylinder trader was hacked to death by assailants over a previous enmity in Kadamtali of the capital, Dhaka.
The victim, identified as Shahab Uddin, 40, was critically injured in the attack around 10pm on Tuesday in the Kudar Bazar Adarsha area.
He was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty physician declared him dead at around 11:30pm.
An investigation officer of Kadamtali police station said known criminals from the same area carried out the attack due to a prior dispute. Although Shahab Uddin was rushed to the hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries. His body has been sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
Police said Shahab Uddin was involved in the gas cylinder business and that the incident is under investigation. Further details will be disclosed after the probe is completed. Efforts are underway to arrest those responsible.
