A fire broke out on the fifth floor of a ten-storey residential building in the capital’s Turag area.
Seven units of the Fire Service brought the blaze under control.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate, they received the fire alert at 5:50am on Sunday. Shahjahan Shikder, acting officer of the organization’s media cell, confirmed the development.
He said residents living above the fifth floor were initially taken to the rooftop under the supervision of the Fire Service.
After the flames were contained, they were escorted safely downstairs via the staircase. A total of 23 people were rescued unharmed while five sustained minor injuries.
Shahjahan Shikder further said the fire originated from an electrical malfunction.
The incident caused an estimated loss of Tk20 lakh, while goods worth nearly Tk1 crore 50 lakh were salvaged from the site.
