The lioness named Daisy that had escaped from its cage at the National Zoo in Dhaka's Mirpur has been safely returned to the enclosure.
Authorities used an anesthesia injection fired from a gun to sedate the her before bringing her back to the cage at 7pm on Friday. .
According to reports, the lion came out of the cage between 4:30pm and 4:45pm.
Dr Atikur Rahman, curator of the National Zoo, told Dhaka Tribune: “Between 4:30 pm and 4:45pm, a lion came out of the cage. However, it did not appear in public and remained within its cage territory.”
He added: “We cleared the visitors from the area. As a result, the lion was not agitated and initially did not realize the situation. We gave it beef, which calmed it. Later, we administered an anesthesia injection using a gun. Now it is dozing.”
When asked how the lion managed to leave the cage, Zoo Director Dr Rafiqul Islam said: “The entrance and exit of the cage are the same. How it got out cannot be confirmed without investigation. We have not yet been able to go in front of the cage. After returning the lion to the cage, we will investigate the matter. Then the cause will be known.”
