The army recovered a locally made pistol, one round of ammunition and four crude bombs from the Ekota Express train at Dhaka’s Airport Railway Station on Monday morning.
A team from the Uttara Army Camp under the 6th Independent AD Brigade conducted the raid based on intelligence information at around 8am, an officer of the brigade confirmed.
According to the army, several coaches of the Dinajpur-bound train were searched, during which the weapons and explosives were found concealed inside rice sacks.
Four individuals were detained from the spot for questioning and taken to the Uttara Army Camp.
Witnesses said that after the train left Dinajpur, three to four people dropped several sacks of rice inside a specific coach and got off during a halt at Parbatipur Railway Station. The weapons and crude bombs were later recovered from those sacks.
The army said investigations and intelligence operations are underway to identify those involved.
It added that the force remains committed to ensuring public safety, law and order, and national security, and that such drives will continue to curb acts of sabotage.
