A pregnant woman on a motorcycle was killed and her husband injured after a Manjil Paribahan bus rammed into them on the Jatrabari-Gulistan Flyover in Dhaka on Thursday morning.
The deceased was Mosammat Meherunnesa Jhumi, 22, who was eight months pregnant.
Her husband, Musa Kalim Ullah, 26, who was driving the motorcycle, sustained minor injuries.
The accident took place around 11am when the couple was heading from their home in Matuail to Ad-Din Hospital for a medical check-up.
According to Musa, the bus struck them from behind, throwing both of them onto the road.
Locals rushed them to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Meherunnesa dead around noon.
Musa, a mobile accessories trader, also said the same bus hit another motorcycle immediately afterwards, injuring Md Rana, 25, a rider from their local market area.
Locals managed to seize the bus following the incident.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the Wari police station has been notified.
Meherunnesa was originally from Gagra village under Kachua upazila in Chandpur. She was the daughter of Harun-or-Rashid.
The couple lived with their family in Muslim Nagar, Matuail, and Meherunnesa was the mother of a four-year-old daughter named Munjareen.
