BNP leader Ishraque Hossain on Sunday convened a view-exchange meeting with officials from the waste management department and staff members of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) at Nagar Bhaban, where he presented himself as the city’s “honourable mayor”.
A banner displayed at the event described Ishraque as “Manoniyo Mayor” (Honourable Mayor), despite the fact that he has not yet been formally sworn into office.
According to employees present at the meeting, the event was arranged with officials and personnel from the DSCC’s waste management division.
Organizers said that the purpose of the meeting was to promote a cleaner Dhaka and improve civic services.
Previously, Ishraque had declared that should the government fail to arrange his official swearing-in as mayor, he would hold the ceremony himself with the support of his followers.
“Daily public services will be carried out under our supervision. Otherwise, the main gate will remain locked,” he said on Sunday while addressing a protest held at Nagar Bhaban.
