Workers stage sit-in at Srom Bhaban over unpaid wages

They warned that they would not leave the streets until their demands are met

Update : 15 Jun 2025, 03:52 PM

Hundreds of workers have staged a sit-in in front of the Srom Bhaban in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, demanding payment of two months’ overdue wages and other entitlements.

From 11am on Sunday, the demonstrators gathered with banners and festoons displaying their demands.

They are employed at Seasons Dresses Limited in Gazipur.

Speaking to them, it was learned that around 1,200 workers at Seasons Dresses Limited have not been paid for two months.

A third month is also nearing its end, but there is no certainty about receiving their wages.

Additionally, they did not receive bonuses for the last two Eid festivals. The factory owners have made no commitments in this regard.

The protesters said: “We protested before Eid as well. At that time, government officials assured us that the issue would be resolved after Eid. Based on that promise, we called off the protest. But no progress has been made since.”

Worker leader Ruhul Amin said: “Even without pay, we kept working. But now there's uncertainty about whether we'll get paid at all. That’s why we’re compelled to return to the streets.”

He added that more of their colleagues would join the sit-in in the afternoon and that they would announce a final program tomorrow.

They warned that they would not leave the streets until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, workers from eight factories under the TNZ Group are also due to receive Tk5 crore in overdue wages on Sunday, as previously promised.

Several labor leaders said they might also launch a strong protest if the payment is not made.
