Secretariat officials and employees continued their protest for the 10th consecutive day at the Secretariat on Monday, demanding the repeal of the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, reports UNB.
Their march began around 11am in front of building No 4 of the Secretariat, with employees marching around the premises chanting slogans such as “In my golden Bengal, there is no place for discrimination,” “We are on fire, our blood is on fire,” “The Secretariat has awakened,” and “We do not accept this fascist black law” among others.
The protestors announced that they would submit a memorandum to Mahfuj Alam, adviser for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser for the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, demanding the repeal of the ordinance.
Earlier, on Sunday, they had submitted memorandums to Ali Imam Majumdar, adviser for the Ministry of Food and Land, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, was issued on May 25.
The ordinance includes a provision that allows employees to be dismissed without a departmental case, based solely on a show-cause notice, for four types of disciplinary offenses.
The draft of the ordinance was approved at the Advisory Council meeting on May 22.
Since May 24, all organizations representing officials and employees have been jointly protesting at the Secretariat, calling the ordinance repressive and labeling it a "black law."
