The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, has said that the university will receive approval for the construction of nine additional residential halls once clearance is granted by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).

He made this comment on Sunday after placing a floral tribute at the mausoleum of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

He mentioned that students have proposed naming one of the new halls after the revered poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, a suggestion the university has taken into consideration.

“Once the Ecnec approval is obtained, we will be able to move forward with the construction of the nine halls, one of which will be named in honour of our mational poet,” he added.

Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan further said that the teachings of Kazi Nazrul Islam hold profound relevance in the present time.

“He taught us to resist injustice and to uphold unity. His message is universal and eternal,” he said.

In observance of the poet’s birth anniversary, the university has organized special prayers and commemorative events.
