Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has said that no matter how great the obstacles, they will be overcome in order to implement the July Declaration.

“Our politics and existence are rooted in the July uprising. The more we embody it, the further we will advance,” he said.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a gathering of national organizers from across the country under the youth wing of the NCP, Jatiyo Jubo Shokti, held on Friday at a hotel in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Other speakers at the event included NCP’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Southern Region Chief Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, Convener of National Youth Force Advocate Tarikul Islam, Member Secretary of the National Youth Force Dr Zahedul Islam, and Chief Organizer Engineer Farhad Sohel, among others.

Expressing regret, Nahid said that participants in the July uprising are now viewing it as merely a change in power.

“The NCP opposes this perspective. We had demanded fundamental reforms. But they are portraying July as regime change and attempting to return to power by clinging to the old constitution. This is where we object,” he said.

He further noted that attempts are being made to create instability in the country.

“Instead of falling into that trap, we will remain united.” Nahid, a former adviser, called on the youth to step forward in implementing the demands of the July Declaration.

Nahid continued: “While everyone is calling for state reform, a segment of young leaders has become desperate for power. In this situation, uniting the patriotic youth will be one of our primary objectives. Those who will protect the country in the future are the ones who will fight for a new republic. The Youth Force must work to instill patriotism and values among young people.”

Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator of NCP’s southern region, said: “This constitution must be discarded, and everyone must work together to draft a new constitution.”

He called for the inclusion of competent individuals in politics.
