Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Dr Khandaker Rahat Hossain, cousin of Awami League leader Amir Hossain Amu from Uttara area of Dhaka on Thursday.
Rahat was arrested in connection with an attempted murder case filed with Rampura police station on February 11, 2025 said Rabiul Islam Bhuiya, joint commissioner of DB (North).
He was the no 32 accused in the case.
Based on secret information, a team of the DB police conducted a drive in Uttara Sector-1 and arrested Rahat from his home.
Several people were injured by the leaders and activists of Awami League during a student movement near Rampura Bridge and adjacent areas on July 22, 2024.
Zahirul Islam, a victim who was injured during the attack, filed a case with Rampura police station.
Dr Rahat Hossain, a known hardliner within the ruling party, had close family ties with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and was once considered a trusted associate, said police.
