Update : 22 May 2025, 03:55 PM

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain's supporters on Thursday took position on the road stretching from the residence of the chief adviser, Jamuna, to the Matsya Bhaban intersection, causing suffering for passengers and pedestrians due to the demonstration blocking the road.

At around 11:30am, after a High Court verdict in favor of Ishraque, the number of supporters present started to increase. Several thousand leaders and activists joined the program with separate processions.

At one point, the entire road from Jamuna to Matsya Bhaban became densely packed with people.

Occupying the entire road, they were divided into groups and chanting slogans.

Although the High Court verdict paved the way for Ishraque to assume the position of mayor, now they are chanting slogans demanding the resignation of two advisers in the interim government—Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam.

At noon, Ishraque instructed the activists via his verified Facebook page not to leave the streets until the two advisers resign.

Following this, the presence of supporters has been increasing steadily.

Traffic has been halted in areas from in front of Jamuna through Kakrail, Hare Road, Circuit House, and Matsya Bhaban intersection.

Meanwhile, a similar scene unfolded at the Matsya Bhaban intersection as well.

Thousands of supporters sat down in the middle of the road there, with the crowd reaching all the way to the Shilpakala Academy.

Public transport unable to enter through the Matsya Bhaban intersection is facing trouble trying to go via Segunbagicha and Kakrail intersection.

Many, annoyed by being stuck in traffic for a long time, started walking towards their destinations.
