A statement issued by DNCC said that Nur called the Additional Chief Engineer of DNCC Mohammad Arifur Rahman on Sunday, requesting that work be given to his preferred contractor.
The additional chief engineer explained the legal provisions of the Public Procurement Act and Public Procurement Rules, emphasizing that there is no scope to act outside the law.
The DNCC alleged that Nur threatened to lock the DNCC office if a contract was not awarded to his preferred contractor.
According to the statement, Nur and several others gathered in front of the Gulshan-2 Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon under the banner of Gono Odhikar Parishad.
The DNCC claimed that the group created disorder and chanted slogans against the administration, disrupting the normal operations of the office.
The statement also includes a screenshot from WhatsApp, in which Nur reportedly listed four projects with estimated costs of Tk14 crore, Tk16 crore, Tk14 crore, and Tk11 crore, respectively, and wrote: “Tell (them) to give one from here.”
Dhaka Tribune attempted to contact Nurul Haque Nur by phone and sent him a message on WhatsApp regarding the allegations, but he had not responded at the time of writing.
