Heavy rain covered almost all of Dhaka on Tuesday, with traffic congestion adding to the public’s inconvenience.
By late afternoon, the sky over Dhaka had become significantly darker and rainfall was observed in most parts of the city, aligning with forecasts from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Although the sky was clear in the early hours, sunlight gradually diminished by midday and clouds began to accumulate.
Light rain started around 1:45pm in areas such as Motijheel, Paltan, Kakrail, Fakirapool, Tikatuli, and Gopibagh.
As the day progressed, overcast conditions intensified.
Due to reduced visibility, most vehicles were operating with headlights on.
At the same time, traffic congestion increased in different parts of the city.
Political and labour demonstrations also contributed to the disruption—students protested at Shahbagh and ready-made garment workers, demanding payment of wages, gathered near the Kakrail Mosque.
Combined with office closing hours and limited availability of public transport, commuters faced delays and transport fares, particularly for rickshaws and CNG-run autorickshaws, increased temporarily.
According to the met office, an extended low-pressure system is currently active from West Bengal through southwestern Bangladesh to the northern Bay of Bengal.
The 24-hour forecast issued at 9am indicates the possibility of temporary gusty winds and light to moderate rain or thunderstorms in several areas—particularly in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and to a lesser extent in parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions.
Temperatures during the day and night are likely to remain mostly stable across the country.
