A section of Dhaka University teachers affiliated with "Sada Dal," a platform of pro-BNP teachers, formed a human chain on Sunday demanding justice for Shammo’s murder and a safer campus environment.
The human chain was formed around 11:30am at the base of the university’s Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture.
Leaders of Sada Dal, provosts of various residential halls, faculty members, and university officials were present at the event.
Speakers claimed the murder was premeditated, but certain groups are attempting to portray it as an accident.
Convener Professor Morshed Hasan Khan issued a 48-hour ultimatum to identify the actual perpetrators, warning of a larger movement if demands are not met.
Sada Dal Joint Convener Professor Abdus Salam said: “We want justice for Shammo’s murder. Meetings are being held, but there has been no real progress apart from the arrest of three suspects. We demand a safe campus—students come here to study in a secure environment.”
“There is no other university in the world like Dhaka University where so many outsiders reside. During the fascist regime, Suhrawardy Udyan was used for rallies, and DU was turned into a parking zone,” he added.
He also demanded that the responsibility of Suhrawardy Udyan be handed over to Dhaka University authorities.
