Unidentified assailants stabbed a Dhaka University student to death on campus late on Tuesday.
The deceased was Shahriar Alam Shammo, a student of the 2018–19 session at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and the literary and publication secretary of the AF Rahman Hall unit of Chhatra Dal.
The incident took place on the road adjacent to the Muktamanch area of Suhrawardy Udyan.
Critically injured, Shammo was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after midnight.
Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector Kalam, quoting the victim’s friends, said Shammo was riding his motorcycle along the road next to the Muktamanch when it collided with another motorcycle.
A scuffle ensued, during which he was stabbed.
The SI said the matter was under investigation, adding that a case is being processed at Shahbagh police station in connection with the incident.
