Police have recovered the body of a five-year-old girl from a garbage pile in Tejkunipara, Tejgaon, in the capital, with visible signs of burn injuries from hot water and other wounds.

Locals spotted a sack lying in a garbage heap under the Bijoy Sarani flyover around 11am on Tuesday.

They alerted the police, and a team from Tejgaon police station arrived at the scene and recovered the body.

Tejgaon police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Abdul Kader told Bangla Tribune: “Upon receiving the report, we went to the scene around 11am and recovered the child’s body packed in a sack. There were burn marks on her chest resembling blisters from hot water, along with other injury marks. Initially, it is suspected that the child was murdered and the body dumped here. However, the actual cause will be known after the autopsy.”

Police said that the child had been missing since Monday afternoon.

Her family members had even used loudspeakers in the area to help locate her, the police said.

Local residents said news of a missing child had been circulating since Monday, and there had been ongoing discussion in the neighborhood.

Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and sent the body to the morgue at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

The deceased was the daughter of expatriate Nure Alam.
