6 Awami League, Chhatra League leaders apprehended in Dhaka

DMP added that legal procedures are underway against the detained individuals

In separate drives across the capital, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has apprehended six leaders affiliated with the Awami League and the banned organization Chhatra League.

This information was revealed in a press release sent by the DMP’s media wing on Friday.

The detained individuals are: Shaher Alam Murad, 60, executive member of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League and former general secretary of its South unit; Md Arif Hossain, president of Ward 50 Awami Jubo League (South Dhaka); Md Shakhawat Hossain, 50, former councillor of Ward 23 under North City Corporation; Bappy Rayhan, vice-president of the banned organization Chhatra League’s Sir AF Rahman Hall unit at Dhaka University; Md Shahabuddin, 50, president of Ward 20 Jubo League (Dhaka Metropolitan); and Advocate Anisur Rahman, legal affairs secretary of Metropolitan North Awami League and nephew of former home minister Sahara Khatun.

According to DMP, they were detained during a series of raids across various parts of the capital on Thursday.

Details of the DB operations state that Shaher Alam Murad was apprehended from Uttara by a DB team.

Bappy Rayhan was detained from the Fulbaria bus stand area, while Md Arif Hossain was held in a separate operation.

A team from the DB’s Motijheel division detained Md Shakhawat Hossain from the Khilgaon area. Meanwhile, the Cyber Division apprehended Md Shahabuddin from Shantinagar, and Advocate Anisur Rahman was detained during a raid at a residence in Tejgaon.

The DMP added that legal procedures are underway against the detained individuals.
