DU students demand resignation of Kuet VC

The protesters warned of stricter programs if their demands are not met

Students from Dhaka University (DU) held a protest on Tuesday demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet), the withdrawal of what they called "false cases" filed against students, and justice for those involved in recent attacks.

The protest took place at the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus, where the protesters warned that they would announce stricter programs if their demands were not met.

Speaking at the rally, AB Zubayer, a student of the Islamic Studies department at DU, criticized the silence of the Kuet VC and administration, claiming that a new form of fascism was emerging following the recent uprising.

"The identities of the BNP leaders and activists who carried out the attack have already been revealed, yet the BNP-leaning Kuet administration has taken no action against them—not even filing a case. Instead, cases have been lodged against the students who were attacked," he said.

Musaddiq Ali Ibne Muhammad, another DU student, said that the attack by "BNP-Jubo Dal criminals" on February 18 reminded them of the violence that had occurred in July.

"When the army attempted to enter the campus to stop the bloodshed, the treacherous VC, Masud, did not allow them in. We demand the immediate resignation of this collaborator VC," he added.

Addressing the Ministry of Home Affairs, he mentioned that when families of those martyred during the July uprising tried to file cases, the administration showed various legal barriers and harassed them.

"But on what basis did the police accept these fabricated cases against Kuet students? The Home Ministry must answer this," he added.
