3 jailed over female journalist harassment case

The harassment incident, which took place in the Rampura area on Wednesday night, sparked widespread discussion on social media

A Dhaka court has ordered three individuals arrested for harassing a female journalist in the Rampura police station area to be sent to jail.

The order was issued on Friday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah after a hearing.

The individuals sent to jail are Shoaib Rahman Jishan, 25, Md Raisul Islam, 21, and Md Kawsar Hossain, 21.

On Friday, Rampura police station Officer-in-Charge and case investigation officer Ataur Rahman Akand presented them before the court, requesting their detention.

After the hearing, the court granted the request.

The harassment incident, which took place in the Rampura area on Wednesday night, sparked widespread discussion on social media.

Later, the journalist filed a case at Rampura police station, naming Jishan and Parthib along with 10–20 unidentified individuals.

According to sources, with the help of intelligence reports and technology, the main accused, Shoaib Rahman Jishan, was arrested from the Meradia area of Rampura police station.

Based on his information, RAB later arrested Md Raisul Islam from Bailey Road in Ramna police station area and Md Kawsar Hossain from Gendaria.

In a Facebook post titled "Not safe even in front of my own house," the journalist wrote that when some men teased her, her brother stepped forward to confront them. The harassers then started an argument and physically assaulted her brother.

When the journalist tried to protect her brother, the men allegedly assaulted and physically harassed her as well, as said in her complaint.
