Due to increased traffic pressure, a severe traffic jam has formed on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Wednesday, stretching from the Shikarikanda Bypass intersection to the Mouna intersection, Hakkani intersection, Patgudam Bridge intersection, and all the way to Shambhuganj's China intersection, covering about five kilometres.

As a result, people returning home for Eid from Dhaka are facing significant difficulties, reports Bangla Tribune.

Chameli, a passenger travelling from Gazipur Chowrasta to her hometown in Tarakanda, Mymensingh, said: "I left home after having Sehri and performing Fajr prayer to go to my village. I boarded a Sherpur-bound bus at 7am from Gazipur Chowrasta. The bus was moving smoothly until we reached the outskirts of Mymensingh, where traffic jams began to form at various intersections. We have been stuck in traffic for almost two hours at the Shikarikanda Bypass intersection in Mymensingh. Every passenger is in the same situation as me."

Bus driver Jamal said: "After Gazipur, the traffic jam is worse on the Mymensingh section of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. There has been a traffic jam along a stretch of more than five kilometres from the Shikarikanda Bypass intersection to the China intersection in Mymensingh since this morning. Due to the severe traffic, we are driving at a very slow pace. It will take much longer to reach the destination. Passengers are also becoming impatient during Ramadan."

Meanwhile, District Police Superintendent Kazi Akhtar Ul Alam said: "Police personnel are performing their duties to ensure the smooth travel of people returning home for Eid. However, the heavy volume of vehicles on the road has led to some traffic congestion."
