While Tarique Rahman’s return is not expected immediately, sources indicate that he may come back just before the election process begins or after the election schedule is announced

Extensive renovation work is underway at a house in Baridhara DOHS, Dhaka, which is being prepared for BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s anticipated return to Bangladesh.

The residence, inherited by his wife, Dr Zobaida Rahman, and her elder sister, Shahina Zaman Bindu, had remained unused for a long time. Now, with his return in mind, significant refurbishments, including modern redesigns of the kitchen and bathrooms, are taking place.

While Tarique Rahman’s return is not expected immediately, sources indicate that he may come back just before the election process begins or after the election schedule is announced.

Meanwhile, BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia is eager to return to Bangladesh after Ramadan, according to UK BNP President MA Malek who spoke to the Daily Dazzling Dawn.

When asked about their return, Malek said all necessary preparations, including the renovation of the Dhaka residence, are ongoing.

He confirmed that Tarique Rahman is expected to arrive before the election process starts.

A BNP Standing Committee member and Khaleda Zia’s physician, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, echoed similar sentiments, saying Tarique Rahman’s return is only a matter of time and that Begum Khaleda Zia will return soon based on medical advice.

A Dhaka court recently acquitted Tarique Rahman, former state minister Lutfozzaman Babar, and six others in a bribery case linked to an attempt to secure impunity in a murder trial.

Judge Md Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 issued the decision Wednesday morning, according to defence counsels Borhan Uddin and Aminul Gani Titu.

Following the ruling, BNP legal representatives said that there are no current proceedings against Tarique Rahman or Babar in trial courts.
