DU forms committee to probe student's anti-Hindu remarks

Hindu students from multiple academic years submitted the complaint

A Fact-Finding Committee has been formed to investigate the complaints made by Hindu students from various academic years against a Dhaka University student for allegedly making 'obscene' and 'offensive' remarks about various aspects of Hinduism on social media. 
 
This complaint was submitted to the Vice-Chancellor of DU on Thursday. 
 
The accused is Md Abu Sayem, a student in the 2019-2020 academic year from the Department of Bangla.
 
According to the complaints, he has been continuously making 'derogatory' comments about the Hindu religion. These comments have upset the Hindu community from the university and Bangladesh. 
 
Dr Shantu Barua, Assistant Proctor has been made the convener of the Fact-Finding Committee.
 
Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Proctor, Debashis Pal, Jagannath Hall Provost, and Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, Salimullah Muslim Hall Provost have been made members. And Mostak Ahmed, Additional Director of ICT Cell, DU has been made a member of the committee. 
 
This committee will investigate the allegations brought by the students and provide observations and recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor.
 
Dr Shantu Barua confirmed the formation of this committee to the Dhaka Tribune. He also said he was informed about the committee a while ago but he hasn't been able to contact the rest of the committee members due to it being iftar time.
 
"We will sit and fix a roadmap for investigating the issue," he added.
