The Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held protest marches and rallies in the capital on Thursday, condemning Israel’s attack and indiscriminate killings in Gaza, Palestine.
After Zuhr prayers, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat held a rally at Baitul Mukarram North Gate before marching through the streets.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan North Jamaat organised a protest march in front of Kamil Madrasa in Uttar Badda.
Speaking at the rally, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul said: "Israel is the poison of the Middle East. Netanyahu is a mass murderer and should face an arrest warrant at the International Crimes Court. Israel should be erased from the world map."
He called on Muslim rulers to stop supporting Israel and demanded an economic blockade against the country. He also urged authorities to prevent Israeli allies from entering Bangladesh.
Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat Secretary Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud claimed that Jamaat leaders and activists had been arrested by the Awami League government during previous protests against Israel.
"They say Israel has violated agreements. That means Palestine's victory is certain. Just as the infidels fell in Mecca for breaking agreements, Israel's downfall is inevitable," he said.
After the rally, the procession started from Baitul Mukarram, passing through the Press Club and Matsya Bhaban intersection, before concluding at Shahbagh.
At the Dhaka Metropolitan North protest, Jamaat Secretary Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim condemned Israel’s attack during Ramadan, calling it a war crime and a grave human rights violation.
A march followed, starting from Uttar Badda Kamil Madrasa, circling key roads, and ending at Rampura Bridge.
