Civil aviation employees protest by blocking road

Threatened to announce larger movement if demands not met

Update : 17 Mar 2025, 12:55 PM

Officials and employees of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) staged a protest rally demanding the cancellation of the proposal to form the Bangladesh Airport Security Force and the protection of the interests of CAAB’s Aviation Security (AVSEC) division.

On Monday at 10:30am, they held this protest program in front of the CAAB headquarters.

At one point, they also blocked the Uttara road. Around 500 officials and employees participated in this demonstration. From the protest, they put forward six demands.

These demands include: all conspiracies to render the AVSEC division ineffective must be stopped; CAAB’s organogram must be fully implemented; structural strengthening of the organization must be ensured; the decision to form the Bangladesh Airport Security Force under CAAB must be immediately revoked; all personnel deployed under the "In Aid to Civil Power Act" must be withdrawn; the existing disparity in the 10-member board of directors must be eliminated; and steps must be taken to ensure CAAB’s self-sufficiency and sustainable development.

An on-site observation showed that the protesters marched from the headquarters to the main road. Then, during the nearly half-hour blockade, Chairman Air Vice Marshal Manjur Kabir Bhuiyan arrived and calmed them down, bringing them back.

Protesters Humayun Kabir, Abdul Latif, and Masud Rana said that their demands are justified. They emphasized that if their demands, including the withdrawal of Air Force personnel, are not met, they will announce a larger movement.
