Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz has warned that businesses operating by encroaching on footpaths will have their trade licences revoked, and their shops will be sealed.
He made the statement on Saturday, while speaking to journalists after inspecting the ongoing development work on Mirpur’s 60 Feet Road in the morning.
Mohammad Azaz said: “Many garage owners are using footpaths and roads to wash motorcycles and cars, while some shop owners have extended their businesses beyond their designated boundaries onto the footpaths. An eviction drive against these encroachers will be conducted after Eid.”
Highlighting the obstacles at eight points along the renovation of Mirpur 60 Feet Road, the DNCC administrator said: “Occupying public roads and causing inconvenience to people will not be tolerated. On March 23, I will personally visit all eight points of the 60 Feet Road and resolve any outstanding issues.”
In response to a question from journalists, he added: “All ongoing road repairs in the DNCC area will be completed before Pahela Baishakh. Despite a shortage of manpower, work is being carried out at night as well.”
