The Dhaka metropolitan south unit of Khelafat Majlis held a protest rally on Friday, demanding public punishment for rapists and criticizing an attack on police at Shahbagh.
The demonstration took place following Jummah prayers in the Baitul Mukarram area of the capital.
The pre-march assembly was presided over by Maulana Sanaullah Amin, president of the Dhaka south unit and conducted by Maulana Rakibul Islam, general secretary.
Addressing the gathering, Joint Secretary General Maulana Ataullah Amin said: “Rape has emerged as a severe epidemic in our society. Incidents are occurring one after another, yet the perpetrators are not being brought to justice.”
He further said: “Rapists must be subjected to the highest level of punishment in public to ensure that no one dares to commit such heinous crimes in the future. Additionally, the attack on the police at Shahbagh was a grave assault on law and order. The perpetrators must be swiftly apprehended and given exemplary punishment.”
Following the assembly, a large procession marched through several major roads of the capital and concluded beneath the central office with a concluding prayer.
