Update : 10 Mar 2025, 10:44 PM

The vice principal of Habibullah Bahar College has been hacked to death at his residence in Dhaka by unidentified attackers using local weapons.

The attack took place early on Monday at his rented house in Uttarkhan, Dhaka.

Mohammad Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan, the vice principal of Habibullah Bahar College, was rescued and taken to a local private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

His body was later sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan previously lived with his family in the Shantinagar area.

However, he recently moved alone to a rented house under the jurisdiction of Uttarkhan police station.

Rezaul Raihan, a former student of the college, said Saifur was attacked with local weapons during the early hours, around the time of the Sehri meal.

He added that there were deep cuts on his neck and head made by a machete.

He also alleged that despite the presence of doctors at the hospital, no one informed the police immediately.

Rezaul said that after the change of government, students of the college protested and forced the resignation of the principal and most of the teachers, demanding new promotions.

Saifur was appointed vice principal during this period.

"Although he was once known for his affiliation with the BNP, some photos of him attending seminars during the Awami League’s tenure went viral. Some students used these photos to protest against him. This incident reportedly led to conflicts among the teachers and staff of the college."

Uttarkhan police station Officer-in-Charge Md Ziaur Rahman said multiple injuries from local weapons were found on Saifur's body.

A case is in process, and the police are investigating the matter, he added.
