The Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested six people on Saturday in connection with their alleged involvement in the looting of gold jewellry after shooting a gold trader in the Banasree area of the capital.
Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of the DMP, said that they had recovered gold ornaments and illegal arms from the suspects' possession.
A press briefing will be held over the arrests on Saturday noon, he added.
On February 23, Anwar Hossain, 45, a businessman was shot and robbed of gold jewellry in the capital’s Banasree.
Anwar, who sustained bullet wounds on his hands and legs, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
He owns a jewellry shop named "Alankar" in Banasree’s C Block.
After closing his shop for the night, he was returning home with 200 tolas of gold and Tk100,000 in cash when he was ambushed.
