The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested three operatives of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir in Uttara, Dhaka, on Friday.

The arrestees are Monirul Islam, 40, Mohtasin Billah, 40, and Mahmudul Hasan, 21.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of the DMP, said the three were arrested in sectors 11 and 12 under Uttara West police station after a drive that began at 12:15am.

A CTTC team initiated the operation after receiving a tip-off that several Hizb ut-Tahrir members were secretly planning to organize a gathering titled “March for Khilafah” at Baitul Mukarram Mosque.

“The operatives were arrested, and the police seized several documents related to the organization from them,” Talebur said

A case has been filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the relevant police station, he said.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted to being active members of the organization, he added.
