A robbery occurred on a moving Rajdhani Paribahan bus in Savar, Dhaka, where robbers stole cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables from passengers on Sunday.

Officer-in-Charge of Savar highway police station Sawgatul Alam confirmed the incident.

Earlier in the afternoon, the robbery occurred on the bus traveling from Radio Colony in Savar to Bank Town on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Passenger Nazmul Hasan Abhi said: “At around 12:45pm today, I boarded a Rajdhani Paribahan bus from Chakrabarti in Ashulia, heading towards Mirpur. Around 2pm, when the bus reached the Radio Colony area in Savar, two passengers pretending to disembark went to the gate.

"However, instead of getting off, they allowed several others to board the bus. Moments later, they pulled out sharp weapons and took 20-25 passengers hostage. The gang of six to seven robbers looted cash, gold ornaments, and valuables from the passengers before stopping the bus near Bank Town in Savar and fleeing. Later, I got off at Technical Mor and called 999 to inform the police.”

OC Sawgatul Alam said: “A group of individuals held passengers at knifepoint and looted their belongings in a moving bus. The bus carrying passengers has continued towards Dhaka. Once it arrives, we will take the driver’s statement to determine whether it was a hijacking or a robbery."

Savar model police, detectives, and the Highway Police have jointly launched an investigation, he added.
