DNCC rescues kitten trapped in beam under Dhaka Elevated Expressway

Officials from the Dhaka Elevated Expressway suspect that YouTubers might have left the kitten there to gain views

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has rescued a kitten that was trapped in a beam under the Dhaka Elevated Expressway.

DNCC’s Public Health Officer (Veterinary) Md Lutfor Rahman, informed the media that the kitten, which was stuck beneath the elevated expressway above the Mohakhali Flyover, was successfully rescued and brought down on Sunday at around 8:30am.

According to reports, DNCC workers began the rescue operation on Saturday afternoon using a hydraulic ladder.

However, the kitten kept moving away in fear. Later, another ladder was brought in, but they were still unable to catch the kitten.

As a result, a trap was set on Saturday night. When the kitten got caught in it, it was safely brought down on Sunday morning.

Officials from the Dhaka Elevated Expressway suspect that YouTubers might have left the kitten there to gain views, as similar incidents have occurred before.

Md Lutfor Rahman said: "The kitten is now with us. It is about three months old. We are still unsure how it reached the cross girder of the elevated expressway."

He further said: "There is no easy way for it to reach there. Even though there are houses nearby, jumping onto the girder is impossible. Cats can climb trees using their claws, but they cannot grip a cement pier. Since this is a small kitten, I believe someone must have placed it there.

"Even if it managed to climb up through the Banani or Mohakhali ramps, it would be impossible for it to reach that exact location."

Captain (Retd) Hasib Hasan Khan, director of Traffic, Safety, and Security at Dhaka Elevated Expressway (Operation & Maintenance) Company Ltd, echoed similar concerns, saying: "The kitten couldn't have reached there on its own. A YouTuber might have abandoned it there. We've encountered similar cases before and have carried out rescues."
