DMP Issues traffic guidelines for Ekushey February

The DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division shared the details in a press release on Wednesday night

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced special traffic arrangements in and around the Central Shaheed Minar on the occasion of International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibash. Designated routes and diversion points have been set to prevent congestion and ensure security.

The DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division shared the details in a press release on Wednesday night.

Pedestrian route to Central Shaheed Minar
Visitors paying tribute at the Shaheed Minar must approach Palashi Crossing, Sculpture Crossing, and Jagannath Hall Crossing. After paying homage, they should exit through Ramna Crossing and Doel Square Crossing.

Diversion points
From 6pm on February 20 to 3pm on February 21, traffic movement will be controlled at Shahbagh Crossing, Nilkhet Crossing, Shahidullah Hall Crossing, High Court Crossing, Chankharpul Crossing, Palashi Crossing, and Bakshibazar Crossing.

Additionally, roads from Bakshibazar to Jagannath Hall Crossing, Chankharpul to Romana Chattar, TSC to Shivbari Crossing, and the VC’s residence to Sculpture Crossing will be restricted for vehicles.

Alternative routes for vehicles
Vehicles coming from Kataban must travel through Nilkhet-Palashi-Bakshibazar to reach Chankharpul. Vehicles from Shahbagh must take the Kataban-Bata Signal-Science Lab route to Mirpur Road. Those heading to Zero Point from Shahbagh must take Matsya Bhaban-Kadam Fountain-High Court-Abdul Gani Road.

Vehicles from the High Court area should use the Bangabazar-Police Headquarters-Golapshah Mazar route to reach Fulbaria. Those travelling from Shahbagh can take the Intercontinental Hotel-Banglamotor-Sonargaon route to reach Farmgate.

Vehicles from Bakshibazar must take the Chankharpul-Nimtali route to access Mayor Hanif Flyover.

Parking arrangements
VIP parking will be available at the Dhaka University Gymnasium Field. Law enforcement vehicles will be parked at the DU Mokarram Bhaban Field, while general public parking will be allowed from Nilkhet to Palashi Crossing.

Special instructions
The Central Shaheed Minar will be open to the public from 12:45am on February 21. Visitors are prohibited from carrying bags, cartons, or flammable substances.

The DMP has urged all citizens to adhere to these instructions.
