The grandson of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was burned in a gas lighter explosion in Banani, Dhaka.
On Saturday, at around 6:45am, Babul Kazi, 59, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka in critical condition.
This was confirmed by Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
He said that around 5am on Saturday, Babul Kazi was burned in the washroom of his residence in Banani due to a gas lighter explosion.
He was rescued in the burned state and brought to the emergency department.
74% of his body was burned.
His condition is critical, and he has been admitted to the ICU.
