Faruk Hasan, Vice-President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, was injured in an attack during an event organized by the Jatiya Biplobi Parishad on Saturday at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
During the event, Faruk criticized the interim government in his speech, sparking a verbal altercation with some attendees.
The disagreement escalated, leading to a physical attack on Faruk and his companions.
He was chased and assaulted all the way to the road near Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
After the attack, Faruk went live on Facebook, where he accused members of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal of carrying out the assault.
He alleged that “hooligans” from Chhatra Dal attacked him after his speech and took his wallet and mobile phone.
The video was later deleted.
In his speech, Faruk referred to the "revolution of July and August," which he said was meant to form a "Revolutionary Government."
Instead, an "Interim Government" emerged, which he blamed for the current political chaos in the country.
The General Secretary of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, Mohammad Rashed Khan, claimed that members of the Jatiya Biplobi Parishad were responsible for the attack.
A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station, and a complaint was also lodged with the Deputy Commissioner.
Rashed Khan demanded the arrest of the attackers within two hours, warning of strict measures if action was not taken.
Zakir Majumdar, joint convener of the National Revolutionary Party, denied his organization's involvement.
He said that Faruk’s criticism of Dr Yunus and the interim government upset some attendees, leading to the attack.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University’s Chhatra Dal unit held a protest rally rejecting the accusations against their organization.
General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon condemned what he described as misinformation spread by “secret organizations” to damage the image of Chhatra Dal.
The Jatiya Biplobi Parishad, a newly formed political group composed of families who lost members in the July uprising.
Shahbagh Police have confirmed receiving the complaint and assured a thorough investigation.
